How Metrology Will Shape up Precision Engineering?

Image
The beginnings of the science of metrology can be traced back to the golden age of ancient Egyptian civilization. Previously, this scientific branch of study was mainly used to obtain accurate physical measurements of various objects. It is now assuming greater importance, especially in the world of precision engineering and other professional fields.   This scientific study of measurement is also applied through proper investigation of the relationship between variables to assess or observe the quality of various engineering products. Such precise quality allows measurement engineers to achieve the highest levels of reliability, accuracy, and traceability during the production period.   In the last twenty-five years, this scientific branch has experienced substantial development and progress due to the advent of optical technology, 3D scanners, and lasers. In near future also it will evolve to create a long-term impact on manufacturing and production processes ...

Selecting the Right Vision Measuring System

Image
There are seven things to consider when selecting the right vision measuring system for your application:   Part Weight   Since vision measuring systems require a working phase of the glass so that light can pass through, there is a limit on the weight of the part that these systems can handle. While smaller systems can easily handle up to 15kgs, larger systems can take up to 30Kgs. For weights over that limit, the Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) is the best option.   Part Size   The portion size determines the XYZ measuring range of the system. Check the largest part you want to measure and specify the required measurement range for each axis accordingly.   Feature Size   The dimensions of the features on the part will dictate the optical magnification, screen size, and resolution of the scale. Specify the dimension of the smallest feature you want to measure and the provider will suggest the most suitable configuration f...
